ELEMENTS Part 2

World Premiere of FIRE (Grankull) and WATER (Sandell)
Viva Vocal Ensemble: Casey Moir, Matilda Andersson, Klara Ahlersten, Hannah Tolf, Agnes Åhlund
Atalante, September 29th, 2024

Viva had such a blast presenting FIRE and WATER for the first time. A huge thank you to everyone who came and made it a fantastic event!!!

FIRE reflects on the properties of fire and its significance for the development of life. Rosali Grankull has sought to create a sonic and visual musical situation where the different characteristics are highlighted through voice, body, and objects. Existence. Necessity. Overwhelming. Control. Introspection. Force. Destruction. Existence.

In WATER, music, text and image converse in an ever-changing spatial installation. A room within a room is created as music, voices, movements and projections meet in displacements and changing gestures in space. Material against material. Sound against sound. Rhythm against rhythm. Overlays and reactions that create both polyrhythm and polytonality that find new directions in the ongoing web of voices and flow of image.

ALL NEW WORK !! AIR !!

I have been working long and hard on my newest work AIR. I am so happy that it has now been given life by my favourite Viva vocal Ensemble!!!!

Breathing. Breath of life. Reverence. Mind and soul. The four winds. Uncontrollable force. Spiritual energy. Alchemy. Chemical components. The storm and the calm.
The associations to and understandings of the element 'air' are many and varied. The piece AIR navigates an intricate path through these multifaceted connections that entangle mythology, folklore, beliefs, anemology, and scientific knowledge together in sound, space and performance.

With support from Konstnärsnämden and Helge Ax:son Johnsons Foundation.

ELEMENTS Part 1
World Premiere of AIR (Moir) and EARTH (Järnegard)
Viva Vocal Ensemble: Casey Moir, Kelsey Cotton, Matilda Andersson, Klara Ahlersten, Hannah Tolf
Cinnober Theater, November 5th, 2023

ELEMENTS places the voice – a central, integral and primordial part of human identity and being – at the center of the artistic interpretations of the elements. Diving into the multiplicity of interconnections that exist between voice, body and the elements, the works in ELEMENTS explore qualities, characteristics, the intricate nature of how aspects relate, interact and influence each other, as well as ideas about dependence and co-dependence, balance and imbalance, nourishment and life, destruction and death and the implications these bear for the elements, humanity, existence. As sounds unfold, they are mobilsed, interacting with the visual perspective in performance, engaging space, spatiality and all the senses in an immersive experience.
